Back story
My grandmother was just a child when she went through WW2 but remembers the events as if they were yesterday, the memories that stayed with her, “When it comes to writing about the personal past, of course, the issues at hand become that much more complicated. The inchoate narrative wrought via memory will become codified, and solidified; a second-order narrativization will take place. “ (Freeman, 2010: 264). In my Critical Essay that I wrote at the beginning of my second semester, I documented the events that my grandmother went through and recorded them as if they were written in the first person in a diary entry inspired by Anne Frank to have her emerge as a written document so that he stories can be read.

Garment construction
The main garment for this look was a black faux leather overcoat with a white text screen printed on top. The construction of the overcoat was inspired by the journalist from the book and series: SS-GB.

Prints
For the print itself, I made an illustrator file where I wrote all my grandmother’s memoirs (good and bad) including my grandfathers’ (Konrad Schulze) journal entry for his journey from Germany to Brazil and my Great-Grandfathers (Rasmus Svenningsens) letter from when he was captured and placed in a Russian prison. I made the print look like it was in a 1940’s German newspaper because I was inspired by ‘Christian Dior: 2000. Look 32. Fall: Ready-to- wear’ which also tied in with the inspiration of a journalist, sharing the stories. The print was screen printed using a white opaque binder.
